Accomodation and Location - a real family welcome
Our Apartments
You’ll need somewhere to relax after a full day’s riding, and Colina Dos Sonhos – Hill of Dreams – is the perfect place to do so. Our self-contained self-catering apartments are set in five acres of secluded landscaped gardens, with panoramic views of the sea, Burgau village and the mountains beyond.
With access to a large swimming pool, terrace and barbeque area, there’s plenty of opportunity to relax with a drink, or swap stories with other riders. Each apartment can sleep up to five (one double room, one twin and a sofa-bed) and comes with TV, DVD, sound system and internet access. Each has a fully-equipped kitchen as well, so if you fancy catering for yourself, that’s no problem. And Colina Dos Sonhos is run by English couple Ray and Jeannette Hunt (Dougal’s Uncle and Aunty) – they’re always on hand if you need help or advice.
All our apartments are on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
Fantastic views, comfortable surroundings and quiet ambience – just the place to relax after a full day on the trails.
The Location
Here, on the very edge of the Algarve, you get the best of both worlds. To the east, there’s the western fringe of the tourist region – to the west, endless hectares of wild, undeveloped countryside.
The town of Lagos, with a huge choice of bars and resturants, English pubs, shops and marina, is a 15-minute drive from our villa. Lagos has nine beautiful beaches, from the sweeping golden sands of Meia Praia to the secluded cove of Praia do Camilio. Lagos is a lively town with its own nightlife and a whole list of activities to boot.
Burgau, our local village, is 15 minutes walk away (though if you’re feeling lazy, we’ll drive you down). Small and friendly, it’s a working fishing village that offers some wonderful places to eat.
North and west of the villa lies the reason we’re here. This is mountainous, remote terrain, home to the Sierra de Monchique mountain range. It offers some spectacular scenery – dense pine forests, massive plains and wind farms, plus of course the towering Monchique mountains. Further west you hit the rugged Atlantic coast, and the real undeveloped Portugal, a place of breathtaking scenery and quiet, undisturbed countryside. It’s a world away from package holiday hell.
Now here’s the really good news. The temperate climate means it’s warm enough to ride here all year round – even in January, the coolest month, the average temperature is 15 deg C, with 6 hours of sunshine a day. Spring and autumn are good times to ride, but if you like temperatures in the high 30s, come in July or August.
